2022 Secret City Improv Festival Lineup Revealed

East Tennessee’s only improv festival announces slate of participating troupes

Oak Ridge, TN – August 2022 – The 2022 Secret City Improv Festival will showcase twenty-three troupes performing in seven shows over two nights at the Historic Grove Theater in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The festival takes place on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1, 2022. Eighteen professional improv troupes from across the country and five groups from area high schools will participate in the festival.

Eight troupes are returning to the Secret City Improv Festival for a second year: Einstein Simplified and Playback Reloaded from Knoxville; Blue Plate Special from Greeneville; Improv Chattanooga; Danger Junior from Nashville; Action Show and Vibe Check from Atlanta; and Four First Names from Orlando.

The festival is proud to welcome ten troupes for their first appearance: Harpoon! from Los Angeles; Hadley and Magic Improv from Chicago; Mom and Dad from Atlanta; Jolo from Asheville; Sharon and Darren from Washington, DC; Louis Yes Anderson from Nashville; Tusculum Improv from Greeneville; Medium Rare from Pittsburgh; and Teenage Heartthrobs from Raleigh.

An innovative program for high-school students will debut during the Saturday seminars at the second annual Secret City Improv Festival. The program, called the Slayden Intensives, will be led by professional improv instructors and give students the opportunity to hone their creativity, leadership potential, and problem-solving skills in a fun, funny, dynamic, and supportive manner. Students from Oak Ridge High School, Knoxville Catholic High School, and Hardin Valley Academy will have one day to prepare and perform their comedy improv show in front of a live audience at the festival on Saturday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m.and 7:00 p.m. The students’ shows will be family-friendly and appropriate for general audiences. The Slayden Intensives are named for the late William M. Slayden III, a founding member of Einstein Simplified.

Tickets for the Secret City Improv Festival are on sale now at secretcityimprovfest.com/tickets. Tickets are available for either night for $20 or a weekend pass for both nights can be purchased for $30.
