8:30 AM WORKSHOP TBA
10 AM What If with Paul Simmons
Improv is all about dealing with what-ifs. This workshop will work on handling the what-ifs and concerns that you might have that come up when you are expecting the unexpected. Driven by the concerns and challenges that attendees raise, they will be presented with the resolutions, choices, and approaches that will make these concerns and challenges fade into the background, and allow the scene to materialize.
Taught by Paul Simmons from Einstein Simplified. Paul is an original member of Einstein Simplified and has been performing improv for over 28 years. He is a renowned improv teacher and is the chairperson of the Einstein Simplified Troupe. Einstein Simplified can be seen performing every Tuesday night at Scruffy City Hall in Knoxville, TN.
11:30 AM Emotional Scarves with Grant Collins
Ever feel like you just hit one note in your scenes?
Do you find it difficult to emotionally respond to your scene partners?
Well, this workshop is for you. Created over a three-year period, this workshop uses colorful scarves to help improvisers quickly tap into and then harness their emotions during a scene. It’s a favorite of students when taught during a scene work curriculum.
Grant Collins is a graduate of iO Chicago, The Second City Conservatory, Second City Musical Conservatory, and The Annoyance Theater. He’s currently a teacher and house team member at Third Coast Comedy Club in Nashville, TN. He’s both coached and played on Harold teams at iO in Chicago.
1:00 PM Improvised Movie with Steven Disbrow
Lights! Camera! Improv!
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of the “Movie” Long Form. We’ll start with a general overview of the format, and then take a deep dive into the particulars that make it stand out as one of the most fun Long Forms you can perform.
Then, we’ll spend the last 45 minutes or so of the class actually putting it all into action to create a Movie of our own!
This workshop will be taught by Steven “Diz” Disbrow of Improv Chattanooga. Over the years, Improv Chattanooga has performed almost 100 movie shows for audiences in person and online. So, at the end of the workshop, you’ll have everything you need to take this format back to your theater to wow your home audiences!
The workshop Starts at 1:00 pm and will last 1.5 hours. While not required, it’s recommended that players have at least 1 year of other Long Form Experience.
