Festival Update 6/26/21

I would like to first say that I know it has been a few weeks since I have given any sort of Festival update. In the interest of disclosure there have been a few things that have held my attention elsewhere and I am very happy to report that things I have worked out very well.

In these postings I have taken time to speak about things in addition to not just improv as a stage thing but improv and life. I want to take a moment and about things that are going on. For the last two weeks a real sense that there is some sort of normal moving forward.

It is not just refreshing to have gotten opportunity to experience an Einstein Simplified show again, it is also a sign that it’s okay to be normal again. Maybe that is just optimism especially considering how little room there has been for optimism for what feels like many many years.

It is beyond refreshing to be able to sit among the crowd and have that collective laugh again. There is something cathartic about being able to be engaged in an experience in a collective. It’s just refreshing to be able to be in a social moment again.

If you’re not familiar with Improv then let me give a very quick summation of the improv theater experience. It is an all brand new never-before-seen theater show. You are there on opening night and you’re also there when the show closes never to be performed in that manner again. It is a completely unique experience and is completely something special.

Long form improv is definitely a play you will never see again with characters that are unique and hopefully somewhat fleshed-out, and the whole scenario resolved before the show closes. That will never be repeated. In short form the games are played over and over again they will never be played the same. Completely ridiculous and really the collective exploration multiple childhood imagination in one spot. That last sentence may sum up improv better.

Ultimately it gives me hope knowing that people are returning to the stage. And just like in The Great Gatsby even if I am going to change the line just a little bit: Life renews in the summer.

Well that’s enough of my rambling for this week and now here’s the news.

The deadline for submissions to the secret City Improv Festival for first priority consideration is a few weeks away, July 16. So if you are thinking about submitting please do it as the deadline is approaching.  Yes, I am watching all of the videos that are being sent in.  So click here to go to go to our submission page. That goes for groups and solo performers.

Here is a pro tip as far as something I do take into deep consideration, they submit a virtual performance performance video consideration or an actual stage performance. There is a very big difference and it does and it does matter.

Yes I understand we are in a labor shortage but if you would like to volunteer to assist with the festival I can definitely use the help. Click here to go to the volunteer page.
